Randolph Houses

UAI analyzed the options for the rehabilitation/redevelopment of Harlem’s Randolph Houses, managed by NYCHA. This project represented one of those rare opportunities and challenges to preserve a significant row of intact historic tenement façades and revitalize an entire city street. While there are five different interior configurations of the buildings, the street front elements create a visual uniformity and consistency to the entire block front. Except for minor elevation changes, which occurs at each 50 foot division, the basic massing, flat façades, stoops, doorway entablatures, central fire escapes, string coursings, and cornices are unifying elements.

With an able team of consultants, LMW Engineering Group, LLC (Structural Engineers), Design 2147, Ltd. (Code Consultants), and Cham Estimating Services Inc. [CES], (Construction Cost Estimator), UAI brought a special expertise to this study.
