Superstorm Sandy showed NYC residents that resilient design is paramount for building in special hazard flood areas. Destination FarRoc is a sustainable community designed with unique storm resilient construction concepts. It is composed of five clusters of low-rise modular housing on beach blocks and mid-rise, 8-story structures aligning Edgemere Avenue. All community parking is at the base of the mid-rise structures. Each cluster is defined and bounded by common use facilities.

The community promenade, a mile long pedestrian/bike path dotted with local retailers, connects all five clusters together with its center at 44th Street. This is the major plaza for the farmers’ market, public amphitheater and other neighborhood attractions as well as access to a bridge above Edgemere Avenue to and from the subway’s A train station, multi-level parking garage and the major public beach access. It is a modern development with references to the old beach bungalows of the past but planned as a community of the future.
