The BPMC Bedford Armory Health Center is a new Article 28 ambulatory care facility located within the first and second floors of an eight-story mixed-use building in Brooklyn, New York. The project integrates vital healthcare services into a thriving urban community, with residential units occupying the floors above the health center.

Encompassing 24,000 square feet, the health center is fully ADA-compliant and is served by an elevator and two egress stairs. Constructed with poured concrete columns and floors, and finished with a brick façade, the building offers durability and a contextual presence within the neighborhood.

The center is designed to deliver comprehensive primary and specialty healthcare services, including adult medicine, pediatrics, women’s health, dental care, and behavioral health. It will also house specialty services such as optometry and ophthalmology, orthopedics, allergy and immunology, and HIV services. To support these clinical areas, the facility includes an on-site pharmacy. Exam rooms are primarily situated on the first floor to efficiently manage patient flow and accommodate higher traffic, while the second floor hosts administrative offices, dental suites, imaging facilities, physical therapy spaces, and a staff lounge.

Building systems are designed to meet modern standards of safety, comfort, and energy efficiency. The health center is fully sprinklered, with dedicated sprinkler control assemblies on each floor. Ventilation is provided by rooftop energy recovery ventilators, while heating and cooling are delivered through fan coil units connected to centralized systems serving the entire building. Elevator and stair enclosures are equipped with smoke vents in compliance with New York City Building and Energy Conservation Codes.

New waste, sanitary, and vent connections, as well as plumbing fixtures, are incorporated into the design, along with a dedicated reduced pressure zone (RPZ) backflow preventer and a submeter on the cold water supply line. Domestic hot water is supplied via a storage-type electric water heater located on the first floor. The building also features a manual and automatic smoke and sprinkler alarm system, and a dedicated electrical distribution panel positioned on the first floor. Vertical circulation is supported by a 25-horsepower passenger elevator with its machine room situated on the second floor.
