The Haven is a six-story building composed of 64 studio apartments serving as permanent housing for people with AIDS, recovering substance abusers, and homeless individuals, developed by Odyssey House and funded by NYC HPD.

UAI created an environment conducive to both private living and social activities. A two-story glass-enclosed atrium with a feature stair leads to a cellar lounge and other common spaces, including the kitchen and dining room, a multi-purpose space, and counseling offices. The dining room opens to a sunken exterior court and is connected to a landscaped rear yard at the first floor via an exterior stair. The warm brick exterior and setbacks of the street facade provide relief to the scale of this six-story structure. UAI’s objective was to recognize Odyssey House’s philosophy of empowering its clients by providing a higher quality of architecture in its facilities.
