David’s enthusiasm for the process of translating an idea into the details that form an actual building is rivaled only by his commitment to providing the best design possible for his clients. As the staff well knows, if that means a 4am e-mail with a new thought, so be it!

David launched his architectural career as a designer of major housing and educational projects, working for several prominent New York City architectural firms before serving in the public sector in stints as the Director of Urban Design in the Office of Downtown Brooklyn Development and as a Senior Urban Designer with the Mayor’s Office of Development. David brought his passion for the city back to private architectural practice, most recently in co-founding UAI with Tony Shitemi in 1996. Continuing to concentrate on a variety of architectural, urban design and development projects with UAI, David lent his wealth of experience to UAI’s breadth of projects, whether the historic rehabilitation of an old police station for affordable housing or infusing a modern sensibility into a contextual design for a supportive services agency. Having recently stepped away from the firm to pursue other interests in urban planning and design in his new home of Palo Alto, CA, David remains UAI’s design conscience. By his steadfast example, he reminds us to never give up the oppotunity to do just a little bit better.
