lower east side cluster rehabs
Previous ProjectWorking in collaboration with NYC HPD’s Affordable Neighborhood Cooperative Program (ANCP) and Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE), the LES ANCP cluster preserved three-buildings in Manhattan’s Lower East Side that include 44 residential units and 3 commercial units to provide urgently needed affordable homeownership opportunities in the neighborhood. Long time renters were relocated during construction and returned to the building after two years of gut rehabilitation and renovation which encompassed new kitchens, bathrooms, plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, appliances, roofing, windows, facade work and implementation of resiliency measures. The building rehabilitation work was completed in December 2023.
The co-op conversion of these three buildings provides low-income tenants and qualifying households with the opportunity to become shareholders and manage the building under the guidance of an established managing agent. The LES cluster will support the socioeconomic fabric of the community by anchoring both existing and new residents through long-term housing security.
