715 Soundview Avenue is a project developed by Odyssey House and funded by the NYS Office of Mental Health, which consist of 58 studio units in a 5-story building with program spaces in the cellar. It is located on an unusual triangular site in the Bronx, which challenged UAI to create a dynamic building, clad in a glass-fiber reinforced concrete rain-screen system. Bringing contrast to the panel cladding system is a glass façade at the corner entry and lounges at each of the elevator lobbies above, along with ribbed metal panels, which screen the mechanical distribution system beyond.

The punched windows at the apartments are designed to take advantage of the building shape and direction of prevailing winds to maximize natural ventilation in the apartments. The common spaces include a communal dining room, exercise room, laundry room, and lounge spaces in the cellar, open onto a rear yard, which terrace up to the main entry level. Many active and passive energy conservation features are integrated into the building design, making this Odyssey House’s first certified LEED Silver building.
